Pazuzu

November 5th, 2005 by jjalvin

In Sumerian
and Akkadian
mythology
, Pazuzu was the king of the demons of wind, and son of the god Hanbi. For the Sumerians he also represented the southwestern wind, the
bearer of storms.

Pazuzu is often depicted with the body of a man but with the head of a lion
or dog, talons instead of feet, two pairs of wings, the tail of a scorpion and a
serpentine penis. He is also depicted with the right hand upward, and the left
hand downward; the position of the hands means life and death, or creation and
destruction.

Pazuzu is demon of the South-west wind that was known for bringing droughts
and famine during dry seasons, and locusts during rainy seasons. Pazuzu was
invoked in amulets aimed at fighting against the powers of the malicious goddess
Lamashtu, who was believed to cause
harm to mother and child during childbirth. Pazuzu is also a demon who protected
humans against plague and evil forces.

Selamat Hari Raya!!

Selamat Hari Raya….

It’s a holiday today. I thought i could sleep a bit later today. But, woke up 8.30 in the morning.

Tonight need to do a performance. Practiced till late in the night for the past few days, but still sucks.
Really hope tomorrow can have a good sleep.

Last weekend at sibu was another tough weekend. I really hope people organising events knows how to estimate time. By just looking at the name list, we know it’s impossible to finish in one day. Lucky, we chop about half of it.
Came back monday morning. Got down from the plane, go office right away.

Sleep….. i need more sleep….

Back … Exhausted…

October 24th, 2005 by jjalvin

Finally it’s over…

It was really a tiring trip. The first day of the selection is in Kuching, Civic Centre. About 120 people too part in the selection.
The whole thing went from 2pm in the afternoon to midnight, 12am++. We had our dinner at 8.45pm. Got home at about 1am++. Check my mails. Slept at around 2am. Got up the next morning at 6am to catch the flight at 7.50am.
We touched down at Sibu airport at around 8am. Settled everything, got to town, reached our hotel - Tanahmas hotel at around 10am++. Took a quick bath and off we went for our lunch then to the selection ground - Chung Hua Primary School. Total number of people taking part is 40++. The selection went from 2pm to 7.30pm. We got so tired. Me and other 3 younger judges, walked back to our hotel cos we really really couldn’t wait any longer. Took bath and got ready for dinner at around 8.30pm. We waited for almost 30mins for our dinner to be ready at the coffee shop beside tanahmas. Fainted man …
Finish our dinner at around 10pm. Got back to our hotel and we went for a swim. The swimming pool is just outside our balcony. We swam almost naked. We slept at around 12am again.

The flight to Miri was 7am. We woke up at 5am++.
Reached Miri at around 8am. Had breakfast. Then checked in to our hotel -  Dynasty Hotel. The selection was supposed to start at 9am but we went there, the Civic Centre at around 10am. They didn’t prepare anything. When we looked at the lists. There were 90 people. We almost fainted. Then we checked. They are not following the rules. We just have to disqualified most of them. It’s really really shocking to see these Miri students. Cos’, I really doubt that they ever train. 10 point is maximum. The least points we gave in Kuching was more than 6.5. In Sibu, 6.0. In miri… 3.77. Oh man, what are these people doing? We blew our whistle a few times in the middle of the selection and kicked them cos’ they just stopped half way.
This selection is for the most elite Wushu ahtelete for Sukma 2006. The highest marks in Kuching was more than 8.6. What are those newbies doing here then?
It was so tiring. We had our dinner at 9pm that night. Got back to our hotel. Chit chat laugh around until 2am in the morning. Our flight today was at 11.55am. Got home at 1pm++. Thought can go back to office and cancel half day leave, but my sister drove my car.
No food at home. Cooked. Eat. Then sleep.

Just woke up now.

I think this saturday need to go to Sibu again. They are having a Junior competition this weekend. Hope they don’t need real judge to go. It’s so tiring…

Who Says We’re Not Fair?

Who says we’re not fair?Logo

Well, that was the title on today’s Borneo Post.

Event : State-wide Sukma Shadow Team Selection (Wushu)
Date : 21/10/2005 Kuching
          22/10/2005 Sibu
          23/10/2005 Miri

Just got the appointment to be a judge last saturday. It’s really too rush. These people never learnt to get ready earlier.

Everyone heard that it’s gonna be held 21/11/2005 - 23/10/2005. I applied my leaves for those days. Got approved. My boss will be travelling tomorrow. And I got a call asking me to go check out the competition field. I called all my other fellow judges. They are in shock as well. Cos’ it’s gonna be this Friday. Tomorrow morning, I’m gonna cancel my leaves. Apply new leaves from my other (not so big) boss. And pray that he can approve it. Then, start doing my revision. Must finish reading a few technical handbooks. Watch some VCDs. Check out competitors’ past performances. And it’s all gotta be done tomorrow and Friday morning.

Next, comes the competition. Finishes late Friday night. Start moving to Sibu. Sit for few hours again. Concentrating on more than 10 events - men and women and different age groups. Can’t drink too much water. Cos’ I ain’t got no time to PP. Finishes late Saturday night, move to Miri and repeat all those again.

Oh man! Thinking of those makes my head heavy. Wish me luck.
